Time sure flies by quickly. The quarter has been flying by so rapidly. I honestly can't believe that four weeks have flew by. It's already January 30, and a new month is about to kick in. Happy 19th Birthday Caleb though I'm sure you'll never see my blog.
I applied to be an RA, and I found out Wednesday evening that I didn't make the cut. I honestly don't know whether I feel sad or not. A part of me really wanted to get the job while the other part of me didn't seem to care. In all honesty, I am not surprised at the results. I haven't had much experience yet as I will only be a second year student next year, and my group interview didn't go that well. It was fun, but I didn't do very well. The group interview kind of annoyed me in all honesty. I really hate dealing with superficial people, and it really seemed superficial when some of us were introducing ourselves and talking with each other. A girl in my group was trying too hard to sell herself and another girl was pushing herself too hard to be the leader. What really annoyed me is that I know some people only want to be an RA so they can get free housing. I think that if I really want to be an RA, I wouldn't mind if I have to pay for my own housing. However, I think that's because I'm only so used to slave labor. I think I'm probably sounding like some bitter and cynical person and I honestly don't know whether or not I am. However, I'll apply again next year and apply to be an SL this year when the job application comes out. For now, I'll go with the flow or something and see where I go.
I've definitely been studying a lot more this quarter compared to last quarter, and I've spent less time in the lounge too as I've been studying in solitude. This past week was pretty stressful. I spent the entire week studying for my econ midterm, even spending two hours at my TA's office hours, and I must say that the last time I studied that hard for something was for FBLA because I was never that studious in high school. Luckily, the midterm was pretty easy, and seemed a bit easier then the past midterms in that class. Studying past exams really paid off because it prepared me really well. I must admit there were some fail moments though when I was looking over past essay questions. Not taking math for over a year proved to be a bad idea. I spent an hour on a practice problem simply because I forgot how to do simple math involving graphs.
Though the stress of my midterm is over, I am still so stressed. I found out that I have to take summer school because I need to take Math 31A, Math 31B, Econ 11, and Econ 101. I need to take those classes in sequence and since Math 31A isn't going to be offered spring quarter, then that means I have to take Math 31A during the summer. I am so stressed because I have no idea how summer school works or anything, and I am also so irritated at myself for not knowing that Econ 11 required Math 31B as a prerequisite.
I'm not sure whether or not I hate my major. Yeah, econ is interesting, but it wasn't really my first choice of major. Back when I was applying to colleges, I honestly had no clue what Business Economics meant. However, it was the only business major that UCLA. If UCLA has a business admin major, that definitely would be my first choice. I really question whether or not I made the right choice by choosing UCLA. Because of choosing UCLA, I was able to meet my floormates, who are such kind and wonderful people (though I am overly praising some of them right now =]). Because of all the fun I've had with them, I've become so less indifferent and cynical towards life. However, I feel unhappy about my major. I don't think I want to take econ classes for four years. I can't say that I would like business admin better as my major since I don't know what the requirements are for that major, but it does sound more appealing to me then business econ. I wish there's more business related major to choose from at UCLA, like business admin or marketing or something interesting sounding like that. I'll revisit these thoughts at the end of this quarter or spring quarter after taking some more classes for my current major.
Right now, I have to focus on my phy sci midterm this coming Thursday. Though I've heard the class is easy, there is a lot of bio terms, and since I haven't been paying much attention in class, I feel somewhat lost. I'm sure I'll do fine as long as I study, but that means a lot of studying to do again.
Darn it, this entry sounds so bitter. Maybe it's because I've been feeling so stressed and irritated lately.

Winter break is over and I've been back at UCLA since last night. Winter break was pretty eventful, but the last week was more on the slow side. I'm happy that I got to see most of my friends, but there are a few that I didn't get to see, and I wish that I got to hang out with my friends more than once.

December 24 and 25: For Christmas Eve as usual, we gathered at my aunt's house to open presents at midnight. This year was disappointing though because by the time we arrived at my aunt's, my cousins had already sorted and opened their presents. Christmas didn't really feel like Christmas this year. It feels more of an obligation now rather then a time to spend with family.

December 26: I had a failed attempt at going after Christmas shopping. I went to Cerritos Mall to go to J.C. Penny only to walk around and realize that I forgot that there was no J.C. Penny there. However, I killed a lot of time walking around and window shopping, but I am really sick of Cerritos Mall now. Afterwards, I met with Bree at 99 Ranch, only to run into Kurt and Berna there also. It's really nice how Kurt's car is so easy to recognize because of all his decorations. Bree and I made che at our house, which was a fun but tedious experience.

December 27: John, Bree, and I met at Adrian's house and we played Monopoly and Jenga all night while watching South Park episodes and Taken. Adrian won at Monopoly only because he had hotels built on Park Place and Boardwalk.

December 28: I went out with my mom to take her to the doctor's and then to go after Christmas shopping at J.C. Penny in Westminster. We had pho for dinner and then once I got home, I went to Starbucks to meet up with Yoomin. It was really great seeing Yoomin again after so long. We basically walked around the complex after Yoomin ate at In n Out, only to find out that Fresh and Easy closes at 10 and even though Starbucks closes at 11, they close their doors by like 10. Despite the fact that there was nothing to do, we had a fun time walking around, barely missing Fresh and Easy and El Pollo Loco. We ended up getting a snack at Del Taco just because it was the only thing open besides Starbucks' drive through, and we also learned that you really need a car to turn on the motion sensor there.

December 29: In the afternoon, my floormate came over and taught me how to make spaghetti. I learned that spaghetti is pretty easy to make. Because of meeting with my floormate, I had to postpone meeting with Brian. The irony was that he later felt sick that day so he had to cancel meeting with me. We both ended up postponing and canceling on each other. It ended up being another day in which I went to Adrian's place because I didn't get to meet up with Brian so was free for the night. I met up with him at Fish in the Bottle with his cousin and two friends and they had sushi there. I didn't eat much because as usual Adrian called me at the last minute and called right after I ate dinner. It's always amazing how Adrian always calls me at a bad time. The experience there wasn't the best either. The place was really crowded so the wait was really long. Afterwards, Adrian and I went to his house, and J.D. came over and we just played Jenga and watched South Park.

December 30: I went to see an eye specialist because my eye had been hurting for the previous two days, only to find out that because of my stupid cold, my sinus in my eye was clogged causing my eye to hurt. However, the evening was fun as Adrian, John, J.D., and Anthony came over and we played games all night. The only downside was that Adrian's wii wasn't working properly. However, I got to feed J.D. and Anthony my spaghetti and well, they lived.

December 31: I went to the temple in Hacienda Heights with Robert, my floormate. It was sort of a fun drive there, except for the fact that when I almost reached there, I found out that Hacienda Blvd. was closed so I had to go all the way back to Whitter and Colima just to get to the temple. The fun thing was that when I was asking for directions, an Viet man told me to go all the way back down to Whitter, make a left, and then a left again. Because he wasn't clear on his directions, I made a left into Idaho, which had no way out. Luckily, I asked a resident for directions and he directed me to Colima. I'm guessing the Viet man wanted me to take Fullerton or something which would have been a really long detour. After meeting up with Robert and exploring the temple, we had tea there and then left to the mall. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember where exactly the mall was and after driving on Colima for a while, decided to turn back. We ended up driving up Hacienda Blvd. and going to the 99 Cents Only Store and a few other shops in that complex. Driving back home was really easy for me because I happen to know the part of Whittier that I drove by well enough. I stayed up to midnight to wait for the new year to kick in, but unfortunately I didn't get to watch the ball drop like every year, because my sister was watching something Korean on t.v.

January 1: As usual, I woke up to wake the Rose Parade. I woke up at 7 and once the parade was over at 10, I went back to sleep and didn't wake up until late in the afternoon.

January 2: I was supposed to go to the Kennedy benefit concert, but forgot all about it until Sunday afternoon.

January 3: I met up with Kevin and Vickie and we went to the Brea Mall and then Olive Garden for dinner. I then came back to UCLA and then here I am right now.

I can't believe I woke up so early today. I woke up first at 7 something and then went back to sleep and woke up at around 8:30. I'm surprised that I didn't sleep well and I feel pretty tired. Hopefully that means that I can start establishing a normal sleep pattern because I have to wake up really early for lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Winter break has been flying by pretty quickly, but I have been enjoying every day of it. I have left my house at least once a day and that is my goal for the rest of break. I've had the chance to hang out with most of the people that I wanted to, but there are still a few people I haven't seen yet and wish to see.

Saturday, December 12: Once I got home from UCLA, I stayed up until 5 A.M. crocheting a scarf for my floormate while also watching a Cantonese drama. Because I stayed up so late, I woke up really late. In the evening, I went with Adrian and his friends to Misuwa near South Coast Plaza. That was when I realized that I was supposed to wake up early in the morning to volunteer for Pacific Symphony. I was pretty mad at myself in that I managed to forget all about my volunteer commitment.

Sunday, December 13: I went to a t.v. taping of "The Sing-Off" because Stephanie couldn't go due to Christmas decorating at her house and because I had nothing else to do. I'm really glad I went because it was my first time going to a t.v. taping and I got to enjoy a good show while also experience what it was like to be in the audience. The best part was during one of the breaks, there was a singing competition amongst the audience, and the winner was very amazing. After the taping, Patrick, Michelle, and I were pretty hungry so we went to Denny's in Buena Park to eat breakfast... at 1 A.M.

Monday, December 14: Jim Bui Day. Jim and I went to a Korean tofu house in Norwalk and after that we went to the Cerritos Mall and the Target on Gridley and by my house. It was the first time seeing Jim since November, and I am glad that I got a chance to hang out with him because we rarely hang out and it was the first time I got to see his new car.

Tuesday, December 15: It was a laid back day in that I didn't meet up with friends. In the evening, the Chamber of Commerce met with the city for our quarterly meeting and after that I went to the city council meeting because they were going to elect a new mayor and mayor pro tem. Steve Shanahan was elected as mayor and Ralph Rodriguez was elected mayor pro tem. Apparently, it was no surprise that Steve would become mayor. I don't know Steve, so I have no comments. I'm glad Ralph was elected mayor pro tem since he is very active in La Palma.

Wednesday, December 16: This was a really busy day. My floormate, Alex, came over to my house and we went to 99 Ranch to buy water chestnut powder to make water chestnut jelly. The sad thing though, was when I was parking at 99 Ranch, I hit the curb, which is something I haven't done in a while. Our attempt at making jelly failed. The jelly was undercooked and my dad threw it out after a few days. However, it was a pretty fun experience and I learned how to use the steamer. After the jelly attempt, I went to the Toastmaster's mixer. It was a pretty short mixer, and after the mixer I went to Kennedy High School for their annual Christmas Concert. I am really sad that I missed most of the concert though, but I didn't have a choice since the mixer and the concert overlapped with each other. I was surprised though to see Pan Kuo at the mixer and the Christmas Concert. His son is in Walker Band, and I'm guessing Pan missed seeing Walker perform since Walker performed at the beginning of the concert.

Thursday, December 17: I was planning on going to Riverside with my sister in the afternoon to meet up with Albert. However, Albert was busy, and well I ended up being busy too. In the evening was Blair's surprise party. Kurt and Berna came to pick me up and take me to Andrew's house. We had to meet at Andrew's house first since Blair wasn't home, and there was a lot of us there except some had to leave early. There were so many people at Andrew's house- Josh, Michael Kim, Edwin, Larry, J.D, Michelle, Tiffany, John Mitry, Jorge, and I don't even remember who else was there. When Blair came home, we went outside of his house and Andrew called him to come outside so we could all surprise him. After that, we went inside the house for cake, and then we all left.

Friday, December 18: I tagged along with my sister and her friend Linda all day. They went to The Korea Times so Linda could get a copy of last year's Hollywood Bowl, Paris Baguette because it was the grand opening, Asian Garden Mall to do Christmas shopping, and Kogi BBQ in Anaheim. At Paris Baguette, Linda spent over $10 in pastries just so she could get a mug. At AGM, my sister and I shopped for William's birthday present, and all of us did a little of our Christmas shopping there. Kogi BBQ was hard to find, so there was no line this time. Sadly, I had a sore throat so I couldn't get any Kogi. Next time, I better not be sick because I'm really craving Kogi.

Saturday, December 19: I woke up really early because I had to go to the church in the morning for the annual Christmas Food and Toy Drive. However, Ralph's father passed away on this morning so he was unable to make it. Like every year, we worked quickly for a few hours wrapping boxes and presents and filling them up with food. This year though, we didn't have as many presents to wrap since most of them were already wrapped and the boxes were smaller than usual so we had to wrap two small boxes instead of one large box. It was an enjoyable event and I look forward to doing this again next year even though I have done this for four years. In the evening, my sister and I went to William's birthday party at his house. I got to see Hanbee and Kevin Ngo and they were the only people there that I knew. However, it was fun overall hanging out in William's backyard and watching all the kids play ping pong, especially since it made me want to learn how to play ping pong since it seems so interesting. William's friend, Eric Kim, is pretty good at ping pong and he taught another kid there to play ping pong. After hanging out in the backyard, we had dinner, and I wish I was hungrier because the food was so good. My sister and I left after dinner though because we were pretty tired. I had a long day so I was glad to go home to rest.

Sunday, December 20: Surprisingly, I didn't go out with friends, but instead spent it with my family. I went with my mom and sister to go Christmas shopping for my mom's family. We went to JC Penny at Westminster and then Burlington Coat Factory in Bella Terra. Christmas shopping is fun but tiring since every shopping center is so crowded. I ended the night by staying up really late wrapping presents, finishing the scarf for my mom's friend, and then watching a Cantonese drama.

Monday, December 21: I tagged along with my sister when she went with Patrick and Michelle to see Quest Crew perform at Westminster mall. While they enjoyed the performance, I walked around the mall window shopping. Afterwards, went to the Korean music store in Garden Grove and then Paris Baguette.

Tuesday, December 22: I planned on going to the temple in Hacienda Heights with Robert and Michael, but since I was still sick, we postponed that plan. Instead, I spent the day at home baking and I went to Adrian's house at night to give him his birthday and Christmas gift and we hung out playing video games at his house. J.D. was supposed to come, but he didn't so it was just Adrian, Chris, and me, until Michael Aguilar came.

Wednesday, December 23: I had a lot of fun meeting up with my Santa Fe FBLA friends, Kurt, and Berna for bowling. Kudos to Kurt for doing all the driving and picking up Jason, Cathy, Brian, and Matt. Bowling was very fun, except I suck at bowling. My goal was to beat Berna and her goal was to beat me, and well she met her goal and I didn't. After bowling, we went to the Cerritos Mall and walked around. I love how there's a lot of free samples at the food court, especially when I'm really hungry. The Yogurtland there isn't that great though because there isn't a lot of flavors and the mochi there was whatever. I only got frozen yogurt because I was thirsty and after buying yogurt, I realized that they had water there. After wandering the mall, we went to 99 Ranch and hung around in that complex. After that, Berna and I went to Blair's house to hang out with Blair, Tiffany, and Bree. We played wii and Blair made us smoothies. It was a long, but fun day in which I got to see so many of my friends.

There are still a few people I haven't met up with yet and I want to meet with them before our winter break ends. This winter break has been very eventful though and I look forward to the rest of my break. I miss my floor and floormates though and and looking forward to winter quarter. Break is flying by pretty quickly and I'm sure winter quarter will too.

Monday, December 07, 2009

Time sure flies by quickly. Fall Quarter is almost over and finals are coming up soon. I have a final on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The past few days have been quite eventful.
Friday: I think I went to bed at 4:30. I don't remember when I fell asleep but it was pretty late. At 5 A.M., my roommate's boyfriend started pounding on the door. He knocked for a long time, then pounded and kicked, and then just tapped with his fingernails. My roommates wouldn't let me open the door to tell him to go away because apparently he would try to drag my roommate away. They wouldn't let me turn on any lights or make any noise. After 15 to 20 minutes, I texted my RA to ask him to ask the motherfucker to leave. Apparently the motherfucker didn't realize that his girlfriend have roommates and people are sleeping at 5 A.M. and that the world doesn't revolve around him. Best of all, the motherfucker didn't apologize because the moron belongs in the cult-of-me. I really hate inconsiderate people. Because of him, I woke up at 5 A.M. and I couldn't go back to sleep because it would be too hard to wake up. The consequences of that though, was completely knocking out in my psych discussion, my cough coming back, and me being tired all day long. I was so tired that after discussion, I slept at Covel until lunch with my floormates, I slept about an hour in the lounge after lunch, and then I slept for an hour in my floormate's room for around an hour in the evening. I was so tired that I slept at around 12 after talking on the phone to a friend and then woke up at 9 for my meeting Saturday morning.
Saturday: I had a meeting at 10 A.M. with the La Palma Chamber of Commerce. After the meeting, I went with the women to go to Noel's house to bring her bookcases to the office. For some reason, every time there is furniture moving to be done, the men in the chamber are never there. I am really sad that my term is ending soon and that I can't return to be a board member next year since I won't be able make it to all the meetings. I had a lot of fun being a board member though and I have gained a lot of experience and in dealing with people's politics. The holiday mixer is coming up on Tuesday, and I can't make it since I will be at UCLA. I'm really sad that I'm missing the mixer because it is the funnest event of the year. The board members are going to be singing Winter Wonderland and dancing to it.
After the meeting, I went to Fancy Box to do a little gift shopping. I didn't find anything appealing to so decided to go to 99 Ranch to buy gio chao quay for a friend. I saw the Morning Glory store so I stopped there to do my gift shopping. I saw a Chinese restaurant in that complex so I decided to go in and see if they have gio chao quay. They didn't but I did run into Bobby there. It was actually a Chinese/Korean restaurant. After doing some thinking, it would have been weird if it was just a Chinese restaurant since the rest of the businesses in that complex were Korean. What was weird though is that if you continue driving down Pioneer Blvd., the businesses are all Chinese and then Indian due to the Chinese and Indian population in Cerritos. After that first failed attempt, I went to 99 Ranch, but they didn't have any so I went to TenTen. TenTen sent me to 99 Ranch, but I already went there so I went to check out Lee's Sandwiches and then Pho 2000. Pho 2000 sent me to Kim Tar on 183rd, but Kim Tar didn't have it so they sent me to Diho Supermaket. Diho told me to look in the frozen section, but it turns out they didn't have any. I checked out two small Chinese businesses in the complex, one of which I bought 99 cent Tapioca milk tea from and then Great Harbor Seafood Restaurant. After all those failures, I stopped by Sam Woo, but that was a failure too. I then headed home, but then I forgot that I was planning to go to Wal Mart. I got lazy so I went to the Target by my house instead. I couldn't find the mounting hooks so I went to the Wal Mart in Cerritos. I was pretty tired considering I had a long meeting in the morning and spent an hour driving down Pioneer Blvd. After that, my day got even better because I was locked out of my house. Since I didn't want to sit in the car for a super long time I went to the Buena Park Mall. Surprisingly, the mall was not empty like usual and it took so long to find a place to park. I really wondered why I didn't go to Cerritos Mall instead. After finding a place to park, I wandered inside the mall. As usual, the mall was pretty boring. I found an Asian store, but it didn't carry that many interesting merchandise. After that, I couldn't find my car in the parking lot because I forgot where I parked, I knew I parked at the end, but I thought I parked by Ross not Bed Bath and Beyond. I spent about five minutes looking for my car and I felt so dumb because I have never had to wander around the parking lot looking for my car. After a day of driving, I realized that the brakes has a problem since it doesn't brake properly. Another problem to add to the car since the car alarm isn't working either.
After going home, my dad went to temple and my sister wasn't home yet so I had to wait until one of them came home to take me back to UCLA. After getting back to UCLA, I noticed my roommate was back too, but she didn't say anything about her idiot boyfriend waking me up at 5 A.M. I think I deserve an apology from her since her problems shouldn't have anything to do with me or my sleep.
I am really glad I came back to UCLA Saturday night because I ran into Christien at Bruin Cafe. I was really happy to see him, because I haven't seen him for three or four years. Especially since it was at 1 in the morning, I was so tired and happy that I was laughing for a really long time. I gave my floormates quite a scare since Tiff asked me my height and I was laughing, walked away, walked back, and continued laughing for a while. I saw Christien later again, this time at Hedrick Summit first floor lounge since his friend lives there and I was taking a walk around the building. I saw him a few more times too that night in the lounge. After my walk, I loaned tape to Gio and took a walk with Jon and chatted with him until almost 4 or 5 A.M., I think it was 5 A.M. Tiffany saw on Facebook that Albert was awake and watching Lord of the Rings so Tiffany, Robert, Jon, and I went to Albert's room to watch Lord of the Rings with him. Watching Lord of the Rings with them made me realize that there were so many gay moments in the movie. Jon left at 5:30, and Robert and I left at 6 when Gandalf dies. Watching part of the movie made me realize that I forgot a lot of details about the movie. After that, I went to my room, and my roommates were still up. They were talking with each other about their meal plan and I had to break the depressing news to them that they could use their meal swipes on the weekends.
Sunday: I woke up at 11:30 A.M. I wanted to wake up at 12 P.M., but the sound of a car honking and my roommates talking caused me to wake up at 11:30 A.M. We ate breakfast at 12 P.M. I'm quite surprised that breakfast is served so late, and I'm not that fond of breakfast food. I ran into Redan at the dining hall and found out that we will be taking Phy Sci 5 together next quarter. After breakfast, I studied for a bit in the lounge and then went to my room to work on some Christmas stuff since there wasn't a free conch. After that, I tried to sleep in the lounge until dinner. Time flew by pretty quickly. After dinner, I spent no time studying and then went to sleep in a friend's room. Every time the AC started blasting, it woke me up. I got almost two hours of sleep there, and then I woke up for De Neve Late Night. Sunday flew by pretty quickly and unproductively.
I really need to study for finals. I am looking forward to winter break and catching up with friends again.

Five years in a row I went to the Arcadia Field Tournament. Unfortunately though, I missed this year's band review because I was too tired to get up in the morning since I didn't want to risk falling asleep while driving. Next year, I really want to go to both the band review and field tournament. I'm really mad at myself that I missed seeing so many great bands perform in parade this year.

I planned on leaving my house at 2 P.M., but I didn't get to leave until 10 or 15 minutes after that because I was trying to figure out how to use the stupid GPS. I couldn't figure it out so I gave up and went to pick up Hanbee, and we both sort of figured it out together. The drive to the Westfield Santa Anita wasn't that bad. We got there by around 3:15, but I was hoping we would get there by 3. The GPS told me to take the 60 and then Rosemead Blvd, which was quite confusing since I was expecting to take the 210 to get there. I didn't get to check out many places at the mall since I spent most of my time in the Tokyo store. I did check out a cart which was selling accessories. I felt pretty bad though since the woman was trying really hard to sell me some clutch bags, but I wasn't interested in buying one. I wish I had more time to spend at the mall though since I wanted to shop around at more stores, but we had to leave at 4 to get to Citrus College in time for the field show. We didn't leave until 10-15 minutes after that though, and unfortunately I missed the freeway entrance. Again the stupid GPS threw me off by telling me to make a u-turn in a complex way. We arrived at Citrus College by 4:40, but unfortunately parking, buying tickets, and waiting in line caused us to miss the first band performing. I enjoyed all the performances though, but this year there seems to be less bands performing at Arcadia compared to previous years. I was really disappointed that Poway and Diamond Bar weren't performing at the field show, because that means I won't see them perform this year. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable night. The funniest moment was when the guy sitting a row in front of me randomly gave me a chocolate covered strawberry. I think his name is James. He bought chocolate covered strawberries but unfortunately, none of his friends wanted any. It was very delicious though, and I'm glad that I took food from a stranger.

I look forward to going to Arcadia again next year. I'm sad that I have to miss LDI, but Arcadia wins over LDI despite the fact that I love FBLA over band. Next year, I better wake up to go to the band review. That way, I'll have more time to spend at the mall or at Arcadia. Next year, I'll definitely let Alex know in advance that I'll be in the area so that we can hang out together. I hope LDI isn't on the same day as Arcadia next year or Loara or any other good field shows. I've missed the Loara band review and field tournament four years in a row. I really want to go to Loara next year. I guess this band season is over, but I look foward to next year's band season. I'm planning on going to Kennedy, Ayala, Loara, and Arcadia next year. Hopefully those dates won't clash with anything.
